My New Toy

This year for Christmas the new toy I received was a Lytro lightfield camera-- a cool little gadget that snaps pictures of things where you can fix your focal point after the fact & creat "living pictures" with a little help of the magic of Flash/ iframe. The pics are super cool! The downside is that to get the cool effect, you need Flash which not everything has. :/ Here's a sample image that I took-- not sure if I can embed it in here, but I'll give it a whirl & supply the link so you can follow it to my gallery. Walked outside last night to see an incredible sunset. I put the camera in the street to use as a tripod for a nice, long exposure at ISO 50. This was the result.

Sping is Happening!

Everything seems to be in bloom around my house. Looking for something interesting so capture in my yard, I came across these scenes... I love the flowers that the bee is going after & the hummingbird shot surprised me. I saw it flying directly overhead & just pointed the camera up & started shooting-- when I looked at the frames, I discovered I captured the bird about to grab its lunch-- you can see it to the left of the bird.

The Big Cut

Almost 8 years of growing hair & it all comes off with one very jagged snip. My daughter decided it was time to go short while we went in for a trim yesterday afternoon & we'll be sending her 10 inches off to Pantene to help make wigs for those who need them. :)

A chance to show off my work

This picture (entitled "How We Spent Our Labor Day") has been chosen to be displayed in a mural exhibit which will be part of the International Bowling Museum & Hall of Fame in Arlington, TX. It feels great to be noticed (thank you flickr!), especially since this shot was taken in 2008. In fact, I had forgotten it was in my photostream. LOL

The exhibit is set to open in a few weeks. If you're in the area, go check it out!

My Favorite Pic...

This is my favorite shot from the kids holiday shoot this morning. I just love how much fun they're having trying to not get their butts wet while "sitting" in the grass. LOL Don't think this will make the Christmas card this year but I just had to share it. :)

Relaxing in the Calm Before the Storm

Busy weekend coming up-- Some are going to see the Coast Guard Saturday, others are going to a very long rehearsal for the ballet Swan Lake. The show plays twice on Sunday. Late night Sunday, short week at school. Extra long weekend with nothing to do coming up! Looking forward to it!

Macro Fun!

I hardly ever use my 50mm (f1.8)lens-- turns out prime just isn't my thing, but adding a Canon 250D close up lens to it might make me sing a different tune. Turns out that it makes a fabulous macro lens-- of all the lenses I have macro attachments for, this one wins by a long shot!
